Tuesday 17th April 2012 – Metadata – Making Your MI Solution a White Box

Black box solutions can be of great benefit where prescribed functionality is all that is required. Many corporate BI solutions are by default created as black boxes. Anyone who has ever questioned how a figure is arrived at, or assisted in the investigation however will know a white box is far more preferable from an end user, maintenance and audit perspective.

Adam McGuinness will present the insight he recently gained from embarking on a metadata strategy with the objective of ensuring CGU's strategic BI solution would not leave a mysterious black box legacy, and in fact be a dynamic white box integrated into the solution from inception to deployment. Topics covered include:

  • Defining the metadata gaps
  • Identifying metadata champions
  • Persuading stakeholders
  • Metadata tool selection characteristics
  • Embedding metadata creation and realisation into the SDLC
