Q & A: Operational BI

Abstract

Operational business intelligence (BI) means many things to many people, but basically it represents the ability to deliver information to decision makers in near real time, usually within seconds, minutes, or hours. The purpose is empower front-line workers and managers with timely information so they can work proactively to improve performance. There are likely even some people who would disagree with placing “BI” and “Data Warehouse” in the same sentence as “real-time”.

Come join us in this Q&A time while we discuss various ideas around Operational BI: how it is used today, challenges companies face employing this form of BI, what kind of options and architectures are available for operational BI.

2:15 - 3:30 p.m.

“What is Big Data, What are the Impacts to Social Network to your Business, Why Should You Care and How Can You Deal with Big Data Challenges?”
by Keith Rimmereid, Director of Center of Expertise for Business Intelligence / Teradata Labs, San Diego

Abstract

It’s going main stream, and it’s your next opportunity.

Enterprises have never had more data, and it’s no surprise that expansion is accelerating. Using data to understand and improve business operations, profitability and growth is an ongoing opportunity and a continuing challenge.

Decades of collection, design and construction of data warehouses and data marts have created enormously valuable assets. Beyond the Traditional Data Warehouse, BI Research and IT Market Strategy,” 53% of respondents indicated that they routinely perform business analysis on data not maintained in a relational database management system (RDBMS). Data flooding in from Web behavior, customer loyalty programs, remote sensor technology, call center records and social media has left organizations unsure about how to maximize the business value of all that data.

Welcome to the world of big data: new questions, new models and new opportunities for actionable insights.

3:30 - 3:45 p.m.
