Presentation: "Architecting the real-time analytical organization"
by Kenneth Wilson
, IBM

Abstract

In the early days of decision support systems, business intelligence, and data warehousing, quarterly and monthly reporting were the goal. Today, business is demanding immediate insights requiring shorter and shorter data latencies. Latency is defined as the time between the occurrence of an event and when the data is visible for action.

During this session, we will look at the variety of technologies available for delivering information to meet business data latency requirements. Additionally, we will look at the new world of real-time business intelligence. This exciting, leading-edge technology changes what is possible.

Presentation: “Analytic Platforms and Appliances: Beyond the Traditional Data Warehouse

by Colin White, BI Research

Abstract

Lower-cost analytic platforms coupled with increasing data volumes, new data sources and more complex analytic workloads are driving game-changing alternatives to the traditional RDBMS-based enterprise data warehouse. These new analytic platforms employ a wide range of different techniques, technologies and deployment models.

Given the increase in data volumes, it is important that these analytic platforms minimize data movement and redundancy, and efficiently store and manage the data. It also suggests that analytic processing should take place as close to the data as possible. Both in-database analytic processing and in-memory approaches have a role to play here. Some customers are also experimenting with NoSQL approaches. Finally, many of these new offerings can be deployed either in-house or in a cloud-computing environment.

Given the complexity of options available, choosing the right solution and deployment approach is a daunting task. To help users understand this confusing marketplace, this presentation takes a detailed look at these new developments, and offers a set of deployment patterns that will help customers choose the right approach based on business needs and technology requirements.

Topics that will be covered include:

· New Analytic Challenges

· The Benefits of Analytic Platforms and Appliances

· Understanding the Technologies

· The Role of NoSQL Solutions, e.g., Hadoop/MapReduce

· Deployment Patterns and Case Studies

· Getting Started and Best Practices

11:45 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
