ROI of BI: Measuring the Business Value of Data Warehousing
Data warehouse technology and resources are a multi-million dollar investment for even modest size companies. Senior management certainly concedes that timely, reliable information is essential to business operations but might find it difficult to demonstrate real cost savings or revenue creation directly attributable to the DW/BI investment. In these austere economic times, DW/BI programs are coming under increasing scrutiny to justify their budgets relative to competing investments.
The presentation will use two DW/BI case studies to show a measurable financial return that far exceeds the initial investment. These two specific examples will be used to illustrate a general protocol for scoping and managing DW/BI projects to ensure that the value proposition is quantitative and demonstrable.

Abstract
“Building BI applications is a chicken and egg scenario even at its best…most users don’t know what they want until you deliver what they ‘don’t’ want! How do you get the attention of business users to discover what they want? Almost everyone seems to be operating in ‘internet time’ while no one seems to remember how to spell the word ‘architecture’. In this presentation you will learn:
- Strategies for developing a BI Platform from the front end back
- Why it works better that way
- How to make sure you are building architectures that fit the business need.
