This event is a pre-conference workshop for the TDWI World Conference Boston, September 16-21, at the Hynes Convention Center. Conference attendees are welcome to attend the pre-con.

Workshop: Solving Big Data Problems using Hadoop, MapReduce and R” by Jeffrey Breen, Atmosphere Research Group

 

Abstract
Jeffrey will walk us through setting up local and cloud-based Hadoop/MapReduce clusters that utilize the R statistical language to solve big data problems. No experience necessary but if you want to participate in the exercises then you will need a 64-bit laptop and an Amazon AWS account.
We will be providing detailed instructions on necessary (free) software and setting up an AWS account closer to the workshop date

Bios of Presenters

Jeffrey Breen
Jeffrey is a veteran of the market research industry, having held leadership positions in the technology organization at Forrester Research and having most recently served as Yankee Group’s Chief Technology Officer. Jeffrey led the transformation of Yankee Group’s IT infrastructure into a modern, cloud-based architecture and also contributed to the firm’s research on topics including IT architecture and leadership, financial management, and mobile payments.
