Presentation: "A Temporal Data Overview” by Craig Baumunk, BitemporalData.com

Abstract

Temporal data getting a lot of attention these days due to the recent approval of new temporal extensions to ANSI/ISO SQL. And Bitemporal data in particular is getting more attention due to the complete and queryable audit trail it provides in our current environment of increased regulation. This presentation will give an introduction to temporal data terminology and concepts. An example will be utilized to illustrate the differences between different types of temporality and as well as different physical storage and architecture alternatives. In addition comparisons will be made to dimensional modeling and an overview of current vendor’s offerings will be discussed.

Bios of Presenters

Craig Baumunk
Craig is a Principal at BitemporalData.com. His background includes over 25 years of information technology experience including data architecture, enterprise architecture, project leadership, engagement management and general management. Craig is currently focused on helping to further the state of the art and adoption of temporal data management with a specific focus on bitemporal data. In this capacity he has led some of the most comprehensive evaluations of different vendors temporal and Bitemporal capabilities. Craig provides links to resources and updates on his work through the TemporalData.com website and the “Temporal Data” LinkedIn group.

Douglas Eisenstein
Douglas Eisenstein founded Advanti in 2003 and serves as its Managing Director. Today, Mr. Eisenstein is responsible for the firm's corporate strategy, business development, sales, marketing, client services, and oversight of its consulting practices.
Throughout Mr. Eisenstein's 13 years of consulting, he strategically diversified his experience by holding leadership positions in: infrastructure, operations, data management, software, enterprise architecture, and strategy development.
An entrepreneur since the age of 17, Mr. Eisenstein was recognized as an innovator by the Ridgefield Press in Connecticut. In 2008 he was awarded for his accomplishments in WBJ's 40 under 40.
Mr. Eisenstein studied at Suffolk University in their Computer Engineering program.

Toby Balsley
Toby Balsley is the Director Consulting, Warehousing at CGI . Prior to CGI Toby has worked at Teradata, Travelers Insurance, and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care. While at Harvard Pilgrim he was instrumental in building their enterprise data warehouse.
